Electronic component
(or a part) is a device that affects or uses in its operation electromagnetic fields or the flow of electrical charges. Basic components are classified into passive (such as resistors, capacitors and inductors) or active (such as transistors and diodes). Passive components do not have any control or directionality. Active components have directionality or active control. Most active components today are semiconductor based.In the broad sense, any part of a complete system with a modular construction can be called a component.
